John Barnard is the composer of some of the finest calming, healing and relaxing music in the world. Ironically it is now helping some of his own family as well as being used in countless counselling situations worldwide.

"During November 2007 my Father-In-Law, living in Indonesia, suffered multiple strokes, resulting in complete paralysis and loss of speech.

Unfortunately, by the time a doctor saw him, there was little that could be done to stabilise him or treat him sufficiently to reverse any of the damage that had already been done.

Accordingly he has been in hospital for two months under intensive care and has on many occasions slipped into unconsciousness, alarming this family into administering the Last Rites on more that one instance.

My Father-In-Law was a very highly regarded University Lecturer for over 35 years and he was hoping to retire this year. But alas this illness materialised out of the blue and he is now bedridden with little quality of life.

His 'pension' per month amounts to little over AUD$100 and out of this they have to pay for full time carer, physio and doctors visits. There is no Social Security in Indonesia and no assistance from the Government.

I would like all proceeds from the sale of my music go toward the costs of maintaining his needs and feeding this family, who have already sold many personal effects to raise funds to pay the hospital alone.

Additionally, we would like to set up a fund for other victims of strokes in Indonesia. There are vast shortcomings in the process of stroke management in Indonesia and we would like to think that we could make a difference, no matter how small, to the welfare and comfort of the stroke victim and his family.
